Roman London Tour

Descend into Londinium to find the remains of the city the Romans founded nearly 2000 years ago.

Our tour begins on Noble Street. Here you can clearly see that London was, for many centuries, a walled city, built upon after the Romans left.

To reach one of the most intact sections of the Roman wall, it's time to descend underground. This spot, one of London's best-kept secrets, is actually located in...a car park!

Once you see the Ancient Roman building techniques up close, you will make your way back up to street level and head around the corner to Guildhall Art Gallery, which contains the original ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre.

After a few bonus paintings in the gallery, you will head back out and find yourself on Watling Street, which would have been a main road back in Roman times, before arriving at a street sign that reads Walbrook, which was actually a river that diverted underground.

Next to that river was the Temple of Mithras. Descending the steps underground, you enter the very temple itself. Historians are still undecided about exactly how and why this temple functioned, and as the tour wraps up back at street level, you and your group will have a chance to share your own theories about this mysterious place!

The last part of the tour finds us at the notorious Tower Hill, which for centuries was London's public execution site. Here, partially hidden away, is the biggest section of exposed Ancient Roman wall and, fittingly, a statue of the Roman emperor Trajan.

Tour Duration: 2 Hours
