More About EBG
The roots of Enterprise of the Black Garter
are based in the mid to late 14th century. The groups main
focus is hosting, training and fighting in formal Hastiludes
(Chivalric games). All Deeds of Arms are issued and accepted
by formal letters, these are the standards and a vital
cultural aspect in our chivalric arts. We are interested in
the authenticity of everything concerned with our events.
We are not interested in poaching members from other groups
in fact we encourage our members to be actively involved
with their own groups.
Our patron Saint is the glorious Saint Micheal Archangel,
Prince and Commander of the Heavenly Host and the armies of
Heaven.
We expect all of our members to be courteous and maintain a
standard of etiquette consistent with the chivalric norms of
the 14th century. The standard of behaviour for all as well
as the added expectations of discipline necessary for Men at
Arms will also be expected when in training and in
tournament.
Our training and fighting in tournaments and Hastiludes is
by invitation only. To be invited you don’t have to be a
member and we welcome all authentic styles and disciplines
of the Knightly Chivalric Arts from the mid to late 14th
century once invited.
We study fighting manuals share knowledge and learn
together. Our aim is to constantly evolve and strive to
perfect our chivalric arts fighting with the traditional
Knightly weapons in a disciplined, safe, friendly and fun
environment. Although we are happy to train new fighters in
the Chivalric Arts we are not a fight school, we will
require Men at Arms to fight in appropriate traditional kit
(*14th century) so you will be able to get the full benefits
of 14th century styles of fighting and understand how the
fighting systems work. This makes the fighting flow much
better and for a better experience whilst fighting in
Hastiludes.
We place just as much importance within our group to have
non-combatants of a high standard such as ladies, heralds
and marshals also nobles, minstrels, poets, valets and
sergeants at arms. This makes for not only great fun but a
rich learning environment; we feel that the culture and the
arts are of enormous importance to help create the
atmosphere for all to participate and enjoy.
