The Great War
Home Front to the Trench

Tailored for a smaller incursion, we introduce the students to life during the Great War.

Home Front:
What was it like to be a young man or woman when war broke out?
What kind of pressures were men and their families under to enlist.
Propaganda, conscription and the contribution of indigenous Aboriginal soldiers.
Care packages sent to soldiers.
We run an activity to get the students to read letters from soldiers and then pack a care package choosing reproduction items from the era.

Nurses:
The un-acknowledged sacrifice of Australian nurses during the Great War and the ordeals they had to overcome. Injuries soldiers suffered and the post
war effect.
The Soldier:
Kit and uniform a soldier would have been issued.
Life in the trenches for Australian soldiers.
We put students in WW1 reproduction uniforms
Gas warfare and the resulting injuries.
Students get to wear some of the types of primitive gas masks used during the great war.
